Julius Keeler, 6-5 SR SF Escondido (Calif.) High, has long been a very good catch and shoot guy, but his newfound ability to shoot it off the dribble is what got our attention at the recent National Classic tournament. Keeler isn't a great athlete, and his ability to defend on the perimeter is a question mark, but schools are always looking for guys with size who can shoot. As a result, Julius has a host of schools looking at him now.
We spoke with Julius the other day and he told us that Army, UC Riverside, Cal Poly SLO, Pepperdine and Oregon St. have all been out to see him play recently. In addition to those schools, Julius is also hearing from Navy, Santa Clara, Northern Arizona and Wichita St.
Army and Navy have come out for in-homes and Julius has tripped to UC Riverside, Cal Poly and Pepperdine. He told us that he'll be attending the Santa Clara/San Diego game this weekend to check out the Broncos.
We asked if he had any feelings about staying close to home and Julius said, "At first, I wanted to go back East and get away. But now more schools out here are showing interest and I'm leaning more to staying close. My parents want to see me play."
When questioned about playing at the highest level vs. getting playing time, Julius replied, "I want to play at the highest level, but I also want to play and make an impact. And I also want a school with really good academics. So I have to weigh those things."
Julius told us that he plans on making a decision in a month or so. He also said that he has a 4.0 GPA.
