Herzog is a 7-footer from Flint Powers (Mich.) who won't be skipping college. You can pretty much take that to the bank.
Herzog isn't quite ready for that type of jump. He's a terrific shot-blocker who has good hands and also runs the floor extremely well for a player his size. However, he needs to get stronger and work on a go-to move in the paint.
Herzog, 17, has helped his team get off to a 4-0 start this season while averaging 18 points, 11 boards and 6 blocks per contest. Last season, he didn't get out of the gates as well.
``Last season I didn't even know if I was going to start or not," Herzog said. "My confidence has grown and my offense has come a long way in the last year."
Part of that can be attributed to maturation, but it's also from going out with Chris Grier's Michigan Hurricanes last spring and summer.
Herzog, who boasts a 3.9 GPA, is torn on whether he wants to stay close to home or head out of state for college. For now, he admits that Michigan and Michigan State are at the top of his list. However, Notre Dame, which is about three hours away, is in the mix – as is Illinois and Georgia Tech.
``I am looking for somewhere that's going to make me the best player," Herzog said. "I don't need a lot of playing time right away, but that would be nice also."
