Willingham Is A Vol
DeSoto (TX) High's Dez Willingham committed to the Volunteers on Monday.
The 5-10, 165 pound point guard is averaging 19 points and 8 assists this season for 21-5 DeSoto. "We're probably in the toughest division in the state," DeSoto head coach Chris Dyer said.
Willingham joins Memphian Dane Bradshaw, another guard, in the Volunteers recruiting class. Expect the Volunteers to play Bradshaw and Willingham in tandem, a trend that is ricocheting through college basketball these days. The common school of thought is that you can never have enough ballhandlers on the floor at the same time.
"He's a very young junior; he really should be a sophomore," Dyer said. "He's put on about 30 pounds since last year. He's a tremendous ball handler.
"Well, he's got a whole another year to get ready and get bigger and stronger. He just loves the game and plays so hard."
Dyer said Oklahoma, Baylor, SMU, Stanford and Colorado State also expressed interest in Willingham, a veteran of the Team Texas 16s last AAU season.
