Noel, Southern Remain Undefeated

DURHAM, N.C. – It was Anthony King's birthday but it was David Noel's night as Southern cruised to an 84-67 win over Northern and sophomore Roy Bright.

Division I Players Highlight Matchup

On Tuesday in Durham, there were players abound at Northern High School. Southern defeated its crosstown rival by 17 points and kept its record unblemished on the year.

Leading the way for Southern was senior wing forward David Noel with 25 points on 8-for-14 from the floor. Noel, one of the best athletes on the basketball hardwood in the entire country, played like a gazelle. At the break he had 11 points. He was temporarily derailed a bit in the third quarter when Northern's Roy Bright locked him down and held him to a few attempts from the free throw line.

However, that would be the only time Bright was assigned to Noel the rest of the way and in the fourth quarter, sensing he had an advantage against another defender, Noel got to the rim. Correction, he attacked the rim. More than once he burst by his man and drove the lane for a dunk. A two-handed throw down in traffic was the highlight of the evening.

Northern's Roy Bright added 30 in the loss. Bright played a lot inside in this contest. He corralled 12 boards; 9 of them offensive.

Southern's Anthony King, celebrating a birthday, scored 15 and grabbed 8 rebounds.
