Schools Making Their Pitch
"We've been blowing people out," says Aaron Spears of Dunbar's recent run. His team is 11-4 and 5-0 in the league. "I had a triple-double (against Tilden). I had 16, 15 and 10 assists. They just triple-teammed me and I threw it to whoever was cutting."
Spears' last statement, combined with some serious weight loss is the reason colleges are courting him. He's developing as a player and in turn his recruitment has blown up. "I want to cut my phone off. They call all night long." They meaning schools like Illinois, Iowa, UConn, Oregon and Louisville. West Virginia called him while we were chatting on the line. Spears thinks each schools has offered.
However, he doesn't have any official visits set up just yet. "I really can't go in season because we have practice every day. If I miss practice then my teammates will want to miss practice to."
Spears feels like Illinois and Iowa are recruiting him the hardest. Iowa head coach Steve Alford was down to see him on Wednesday. He states that there is no leader in his recruitment at this point.
"I'm just trying to get on this all-state team."
