2006 Focus: Nate Schulte

Nate Schulte, 6-4 JR SF Las Vegas (Nev.) Palo Verde, returned home earlier this year after starting the school year at Brewster Academy in New Hampshire. A tough and physical player, Schulte is trying to make the adjustment to the three after playing mostly inside his first couple years in high school.

We spoke with Schulte recently and asked him about the schools that have contacted him so far.

"Stanford, Nebraska, New Mexico, San Francisco, Georgia Tech, UC Santa Barbara, Utah, Penn State, Indiana...those are some of the schools," said Schulte.

We asked Schulte if he has any early leaders and he said, "I'm kind of open right now. I haven't really gotten too into it yet."

Schulte did talk about some of the issues he'll consider in choosing a school.

"Playing time is a factor and I want to be around a good group of players," said Schulte. "Academics will also be important."

Schulte tore two ligaments in his right ankle recently, but the doctor told him that he can continue playing without doing any more damage.

"I'll finish my high school season," Schulte told us. "He said it would be painful, but I couldn't do any more damage. Then I'll have surgery and I should be ready by the Easter Classic in March."

Schulte told us he has a 4.3 GPA and he'll take the SAT in March.
