Perry Attracting A Lot of Attention
Durham Hillside junior small forward Bobby Perry gets a chance to even a score with rival Southern on Tuesday night. Last week, Hillside was drubbed by powerful Southern led by David Noel and Anthony King.
"We didn't play too good," Perry said. "We got off to a slow start and got down. Our defense wasn't at its best. They start four seniors and we start three sophomores and two juniors."
Perry, obviously, is one of the junior starters. He's beginning to see college offers come in. "I've got two big offers," Perry said. " Actually, three: Tennessee, Wake Forest and Kentucky. Stanford is waiting to see if I get accepted into the school."
Wow, that's pretty impressive for mid-season of his junior year. "Stanford came to a practice. Kentucky offered me after the game in Danville, Va. Tennessee saw me in Orlando and Wake Forest saw me at the Southern game and also at a practice and also at Danville."
"Coach (Smith) said he liked my demeanor and I had 15 rebounds and 18 points (against Danville). I got into foul trouble early, came back in the second quarter, and stayed out of foul trouble. He liked how I stayed aggressive."
Despite the offers, Perry will take his time in picking a school. "I want to see the teams. I haven't gotten a chance to see the schools that much. I want to see the teams practice and the campuses. I'll probably do that during the spring and summer."
