Fields Will Be A Catamount

The Western Carolina Catamounts landed themselves a power forward with a presence. Renard Fields, a standout from Hargrave, is headed to play for Coach Steve Shurina.

Renard Fields became the 9th Hargrave Military Academy player to accept a Division I scholarship last weekend.

Fields, a 6-foot-6 power forward, committed to the Western Carolina Catamounts after receiving interest from Cleveland State, South Carolina State and Hampton University.

On a team laced with post-graduate players, Fields is a legit senior whom Hargrave coach Kevin Keatts says is the right fit for the Southern Conference team.

"He's got a hard-working attitude and he's a tremendous rebounder," Keatts said. "He's very good 10-feet and in. He's got a chance to have a really good career at Western Carolina. He runs the floor, blocks shots and is active."

Fields, whom we observed to be an aggressive inside player, will finish what he can with dunks and that intensity is the reason why Western Carolina should be happy to add him to their inside rotation.

" He dunks everything he can; anything around the basket. I think he's a poor man's Jason Clark [Virginia Cavaliers], that's what he is to me," Keatts said.
