2006 Focus: Michael Jones

Ra'Sean Dickey and Zam Frederick came out of the South Carolina area. So did Sam Perry. It looks as though junior forward Michael Jones will be the next standout to come out of the state.

Michael   Jones has no problem admitting that he needs to bring his "A" game each and every night.

``I could be playing better," said the 6-6 ½, 220-pound Lower Richland (S.C.) junior. "I need to hustle more and play harder."

Despite a somewhat inconsistent effort at times, Jones is still putting up 21.5 points and 8 boards per game.

``He can go inside or outside," Lower Richlands coach Chip Adkins said. "He got off to a slow start this season, but he's picked it up. He's real long and is fundamentally sound."

``He can get it done inside or outside," South Carolina Ravens coach Deion Bethea added. "He's real skilled and active around the basket. He's a multi-dimensional player."

Jones still needs to work on his ballhandling and his defense, but his skill level and potential have helped garner interest from the likes of UConn, Georgetown, Florida and South Carolina – the four schools that Jones singled out.

However, Atkins and Bethea added a few more schools that have expressed interest – Arizona, Georgia, Clemson, Maryland, Georgia Tech, DePaul and Miami.
