Junior Update: Eric Lane

Eric Lane, a 6-0 junior point guard from St. John Bosco, is among the top players at his position in the west. He played a very solid game Saturday at the Nike Extravaganza and we spoke with him about his recruitment...

Eric Lane, 6-0 JR PG Bellflower (Calif.) St. John Bosco, is a solid mid to high major prospect with a good feel for the game. He has good, not great, quickness. He's got a very nice shot, plays within himself and does a good job of distributing the ball. Not a lot of flash or unnecessary stuff -- just gets the job done.

We spoke with Eric after his game against Ocean View Saturday at the Nike Extravaganza. He told us USC, Oregon, Oregon St., Portland, Nebraska and New Mexico have all been out to see him play this year. When we asked if he had an early leader, Eric said, "probably Nebraska, USC and Oregon."

When questioned about which factors he considered important to his decision, Eric replied, "Academics, of course. Whether I can get better with the coaching they have and also early playing time."

We asked if geography would play a role and Eric said, "No, it's not a factor. I wouldn't mind going out of state."

Eric listed USC, UCLA and Duke as his favorite schools growing up.

Eric told us he's averaging around 18 points and 7 assists a game this season. He said his GPA is 2.8 and he hasn't yet taken the SAT.
