Early Interest In Navarre

Marquis Navarre has interest from the WCC, Big 12 and Mountain West conferences...

Marquis Navarre, 5-10 JR PG Oceanside (Calif.) El Camino, is a quick, lefty point guard who has a chance to be among the top point guards in the west for 2006.

We spoke with Navarre over the weekend and asked him about the schools expressing interest in him.

"Pepperdine, San Diego State, Texas Tech and Utah have been showing the most interest so far," said Navarre.

Navarre talked about some of the factors he'll consider when making his choice.

"What kind of team they are -- how they play -- that will be important," said Navarre. "I like to play up-tempo. Location isn't a big deal. I'd like to stay in the west if possible, but I'll go anywhere."

We asked Navarre if early playing time is a consideration.

"No, that's not a big issue," said Navarre. "I wouldn't mind sitting out and learning."

Navarre said he has one school at the top of his wish list.

"UCLA would be my dream school. I like the freshmen they have there now."

Don't look for Navarre to make an early decision. "I'm going to take my time to make the decision," said Navarre.

Navarre told us he averaged around 20 points and five assists per game this season.
