Tyler McGinn, 6-6 JR SF Gilbert (Ariz.) Mesquite, is a bouncy wing with a very good upside.
We spoke with Tyler last night and he told us that Utah, Oregon, Oregon St., Colorado St., New Mexico, New Mexico St., Santa Clara and Loyola Marymount have all been expressing interest.
Tyler told us that Kansas was one school he always admired growing up, as well as Stanford and Arizona.
When asked if he had a geographical preference for college, Tyler said, "I'd kind of like to stay close to home if the opportunity presents itself, but I'm willing to go away."
Tyler said that academics and the chance to play in an up-tempo system would be two factors that he'd be looking at when making his decision. He stressed that early playing time is not necessarily important. "The ideal situation would be to play early," Tyler said. "But I'm open to redshirting."
We asked if he had thought about the timing of his decision yet and Tyler said, "I haven't really thought about it. If a good opportunity came along early, then I could make an early commitment. But my plan now is to work hard after the season to prepare for the summer and improve my stock."
Tyler is averaging seventeen points a game and he has been invited to the ABCD camp in July.
A very good student, Tyler currently has a GPA of 3.8 and scored 1070 on his PSAT.
