Craig Austrie Changes Mind

Craig Austrie was a one-time UMass commitment, but things changed when Steve Lappas was fired. Now the 6-foot-2 senior combo guard has made another decision on his college plans.

Craig Austrie, a 6-foot-2 senior combo guard at Trinity Catholic (Conn.) who de-committed from UMass after the recent coaching change, committed to UConn on Tuesday night, according to a source close to the Huskies program.

Austrie was also considering Providence and visited the Friars earlier this week. Austrie's father, Vincent, also confirmed the commitment to UConn.

Austrie was the state Gatorade Player of the Year after averaging 22.5 points, 5.6 assists, 5.3 rebounds and 3.1 steals per game. Trinity Catholic was 103-6 in his career.

Trinity Catholic also produced Duke freshman David McClure and former UConn player Rashamel Jones.

UConn was looking for a guard since freshman Antonio Kellogg was kicked off the team at the end of the season.
