Senior Night at Cypress Creek H.S. brought forth a standing-room only crowd, local and national media, and a few teary eyes as Amare Stoudemire played the final regular season game of a spectacular senior year. Escorted by his mother, Carrie, and 13-year-old brother, Marwan, the big fella took center stage to a standing ovation and many flashing cameras. As for the game itself, foul trouble limited the prep star to two and half quarters of play, but that limited time included 27 points, 10 rebounds, 6 blocks, and 7 dunks.
BRIGHT FUTURES SHOOTOUT (Tallahassee, Fla.)
Jacksonville Ribault H.S. defeats 2-time defending 6A champs Dillard HS (74-59). Mid-major recruit Brian Green led Ribault (28-0) with 28 points as the class 3A Trojans finish the regular season as the only unbeaten team in Florida. Dillard's Tobias brothers, Brandon, who's headed to Arkansas, and Jimmy a junior being recruited by the majors, both suffered injuries in the first half and did not return.
Tallahassee Rickards and Ben Elias (UNO) used a balanced attack to defeat Miami Jackson H.S.
The Lakeland Hardwood Classic (Lakeland, Fla.)
Miami Christian defeats Kathleen 74-71 as Florida's best backcourt of Jose Berea's (28 points) and Carlos Rivera 13 points, 5 assists led Miami. Rashad Anderson's 5 3's and 21 overall points paced Kathleen HS.
Dr. Phillips defeated George Jenkins 67-41.UM recruit and 2-sport star Ryan Moore led Dr Phillips with 18.
Leesburg HS runs by Class 5A # 3 ranked Haines City HS. Super-quick guard Brandon "BK" Kelly led the Yellow Jackets of Leesburg.
BIG 8 Tournament (Ft Lauderdale, Fla.)
State powers collide as #3 in Class 6A Parkland Douglas HS holds off #4 in Class 4A St Thomas Aquinas 66-60 to claim the championship. Douglas outscored STA 8-2 in the last minute of this close contest, as Miss. St. recruit Steven Cowherd sank 4 FT's in the final 20 seconds. Conference Regular Season Titles
The state's top ranked 6A team Orlando Evans HS wins 58-44 over Colonial to finish at a perfect 14-0 in the Metro conference. USF recruit Yusef Baker had a big game with 24points and 14 rebounds.
Tampa Plant HS wins the Western (FL) conference title. 2-sport star Mike Williams' (USC Trojans) 18 points leads Plant. Mid-major PG recruit Tyler Azzarelli adds 14points and 9 assists in the 74-51 victory over Durant HS.
Florida's #1 soph Cornelius Ingram had a week to remember. The Bluechipper started the week with a quadruple-double (22points, 12rbs, 10assists, 10blocks) as reported by the Gainesville Sun. (The rival coach at Gainesville HS is disputing the rebound and block total). However Ingram ended the week with an undisputable 40-point performance against Bronson HS.
Augustine "Pop" Lopez had a 26points, 12 rebounds and 5 assists game to lead Class 1A power All-Saints Academy over Avon Park HS. Lopez is an Ivy-league target.
Rising junior PG Dwayne Foreman led Apopka HS 63-48 over Orlando Jones High. Foreman totaled 20points, 7 assists, and 3 steals.
