Kentucky, A&M Battle For Sims

Rekalin Sims is close to making a decision. He's got one more official visit set before he makes his decision.

It's a two-horse race for California native and current Salt Lake Community College standout Rekalin Sims. The 6-foot-8 power forward who was the league player of the year after averaging 19.4 points and 9.6 rebounds, will visit Billy Gillispie's Texas A&M Aggies this weekend.

Sims' first visit was to Kentucky and it was a dousy.

"He loved it," SLCC head coach Norm Parrish said. "According to Tubby and Scott Rigot, they loved him and it was a good visit. Their plan is let him visit A&M this weekend and they'll come in and try to finish it. It wouldn't shock me either way."

Basically, the situation in regards to Kentucky is such. Technically they have not offered and they are pursuing other prospects, like power forward Uche Echefu who is scheduled to visit campus after the Derby Classic this weekend.

"I told Kentucky that he's going to make the other visit," Parrish said. "That's the good side and the other side is [Kentucky] told him from the get go that they weren't going to pressure him."

Basically, Sims is still looking around and so is Kentucky. From the sound of it, we should know something – either way – early next week.

Meanwhile, the Aggies are going to take their turn in a few days. "A&M has been on him a long time and done a great job," Parrish said.

As far as Sims' basketball ability (we thought he was a potential high-major coming out of high school) Parris has been surprised with what he's been able to accomplish.

"He's better than I thought he was. On his visit, I thought I liked him and can really help. But, what's done is that you kind of tell him what you really need and he's done it."
