While most guys are beginning to sweat out offers, the 6-foot-8 Young continues to hold to his mantra of trimming his list in the summer.
"He's hanging in there," Felton Young, Thaddeus' father said. "He's letting us take care of it, me and my cousin (Kenny Carter). We want him to concentrate on basketball and academics."
From Young's perspective, the plan is working. Young Thad sports a whopping 4.3 GPA with honors classes and also cracked the Scout.com Top 10 at No. 7.
Still, fans from across the Southeast are wondering just who is going to make his list and when is it going to get trimmed down?
"We'll narrow it down by the end of the summer because we want it over with," Felton Young said. The plan is to trim to five after July, take the visits and make the decision before the high school season begins.
So, who's in the mix? Everyone's hesitant to say but Kentucky, Memphis, Tennessee, Arkansas, North Carolina, UAB, Connecticut, Ohio State and Illinois are worth mentioning. The family talks about Duke but the Blue Devils, from our perspective, haven't done much with him thus far.
"As of right now, we're still open," Felton Young said.
This spring, college recruiters have tried bridging the gap between the terrific student-athlete and the basketball prospect. "Everybody's been trying to build a relationship," Thaddeus said. "It's mostly head coaches."
So, just like we said, there's not a whole lot to report back. The next time the water cooler conversation turns to Thaddeus Young, reference this article.
We'll update it in July!
