Hill Blossoms Into Spring Target

Kinston (NC) High has been a popular stop for programs this high school season. The team is doing well and one of the best-unsigned players in the state is attracting a lot of attention.

Hill Will Have His Pick

Kinston senior forward Herbert Hill used the Glaxo Wellcome to up the ante in his recruitment. Hill, once committed to Winthrop, is one of the top unsigned kids in the Tar Heel State.

He's averaging 14 points, 11 rebounds and four blocks in league play, according to coach Wells Gulledge. His school list reads Providence, Charlotte, College of Charleston, East Carolina, Oklahoma and NC State. "Every mid-major Division I school in the state of North Carolina is looking at him.

He visited Providence and the Friars have offered. Oklahoma will try and line up a visit upon the conclusion of his season and he'll definitely trip to College of Charleston.

The 6-9 power forward has upside and that's key. "Some people feel like with some development he could play some three and four," Gulledge said. Hill is just 17 years old.

Teammate Jeremy Ingram ranks as one of the Top Five prospects in North Carolina's junior class. Gulledge said NC State, Maryland and Oklahoma are on him. His former high school coach is now an assistant with East Carolina and the Pirates will likely be a player in his recruitment.

"His numbers are what he would like them to be," Gulledge said. "They (the players) all accepted that type of role this year and it's helped us win games. He's a point guard this year and is averaging double figures and probably five assists. Next year, he'll play the two guard and we'll let him roll."
