"I think his strength is in the intangibles," Irwin said. "He's a good student, has great character and he's consistent with his work ethic day in and day out. He loves physical play which is going to fit right in with Marquette."
Lott, a native of St. Paul, Minn., increased his scoring total from 6 to 17 points and pulled down 9 rebounds a game this year. Arizona was going to bring him in later this month for a visit and places like Cincinnati, Minnesota, Ohio State, Georgia, Southern Cal and Penn State had been in touch with him.
"My job has been based on fielding calls on Jamil since Thanksgiving," Irwin said. "He's been very heavily recruited from just about every conference in the country. It started out with low and then went to mid-majors and then once we went to Hutch he played well. It's kind of amazing how his recruitment evolved and kept jumping notches as the season progressed."
Lott will make it official this week when he signs the papers with the Golden Eagles. "He still has not signed the papers. He has the paperwork and I believe his mother is going to sign with him. He's going to do that in the next few days."
