Last weekend, Echefu visited hoops crazy Kentucky after he played in the Derby Classic. The Wildcats did a nice job with him on the visit.
"He enjoyed it, he thought it was very nice and he liked the players," Montrose assistant David Adkins said. "He thought the facilities were nice."
Yeah, but can he see himself playing for Big Blue?
On Wednesday, both of the ACC's Williams' – Gary and Roy – stopped by to check on Uche. Actually, Gary Williams missed seeing Echefu but was also on campus to reiterate that he'd like to have Greivis Vasquez, a junior perimeter player at Montrose. The Terps have a schollie on the table for Vasquez.
Roy Williams did not miss Echefu as he was there to put the press on the unsigned senior.
UNC, which had offered Echefu prior to the Final Four, according to Adkins, was serious in its presentation. "With Coach Williams coming in yesterday, the way they presented it to [Uche], it was unbelievable. Coach Vetter said it was unreal."
North Carolina made it clear that Echefu could visit campus whenever he wanted to and a tentative visit day for the weekend of May 5th was established. "That's what tentatively on the schedule," Adkins said.
UNC, which is expected to lose a host of players to the NBA on Friday, told Echefu he was a priority. "[Coach Williams] said that never in his career has he had to sit down and tell a kid how bad he needed him," Adkins said. "He said he needs him right now."
Florida State and Kentucky are expected to return to Montrose again in the near future to make pitches to Echefu. Florida State is coming sometime next week to sit down with him.
