Phil Nelson Update

Phil Nelson is hearing from several Pacific Northwest programs...

Phil Nelson, 6-7 JR SF Keizer (Ore.) McNary, had a very good showing in Las Vegas last weekend, returning to the form that we saw from him last spring. An excellent shooter with range well beyond the three-point line, Nelson has all the tools to become an elite, high major player.

We spoke with Nelson in Vegas and asked about the schools he's hearing from.

"Gonzaga, Washington, Oregon and Oregon State have been calling," said Nelson. "Washington is coming to see me at my school this week."

Nelson also expressed interest in Kansas, Georgia Tech and North Carolina. The Tar Heels were his dream school growing up.

"I kind of like Washington now," said Nelson. "I like their style."

He said no school has offered a scholarship at this time.

When questioned about what he is looking for in a school, Nelson replied, "The location doesn't really matter. The people, the coaches, a good education – those are important. I ask myself if I was just there for school, and not basketball, what would it be like? I'll definitely look at the roster to see who will be there – which place gives me the best opportunity. And I like to run – so a program that likes to run."

Nelson said he'd likely make a decision after July, but before his senior year. He plans on taking the SAT in May.
