2006 Focus: Derrick Glasser

Derrick Glasser gives us an update on his recruitment...

Derrick Glasser, 6-1 JR PG Lakewood (Calif.) Artesia, is a heady point guard who can knock down open shots. We spoke with Glasser in Houston last weekend and asked about the schools which have been showing interest in him.

"I'm hearing from Utah, Colorado State, USC, Michigan State, UCLA, Air Force, and all the Ivy and Patriot League schools," said Glasser. "I like UCLA a lot. Earlier I wanted to leave the west, but we've had some family problems and now I want to stay close.

A couple programs have been out to Glasser's school recently. "Colorado State and Arizona both came by," said Glasser.

Glasser went on to say, "I'm going to be looking at how I bond with the coaches and how I feel with them. That will be the number one thing.

We asked Glasser about the issue of early playing time.

"I'd like to play early if I can, but if I go to a bigger school then I'd be fine with waiting for playing time," said Glasser.

Glasser said he's always had one coach in particular that he hoped to play for someday. "I always wanted to play for Roy Williams."

His father, however, has a different favorite school for his son. "He wants me to go to Stanford," said Glasser.

Glasser, who will play at the ABCD camp in July, told us he has a 3.4 GPA and he'll take the SAT on May 7th.
