Tory Jackson, PG, Michigan Hurricanes: You could sense that over the last few weeks he might have been pressing a bit. Well, on Friday night he let the game come to him and probably had his best outing of the spring. Jackson scored 15 points but that's not what stood out. We're writing about him because he protected the ball, made good decisions and was in command of his game and his team.
Mike Shaw, SG, Wisconsin Swing: In a game that went into double overtime, this young man stroked 11 3-pointers and had to go for more than 40 (the official scorekeeper scurried off too fast). Prior to the game he was receiving Division III interest. Whether or not this was the game of his life, with the stroke he's got you have to think mids are going to check on him.
Trevon Hughes, PG, Wisconsin Swing Red: Basically there was no one on the Spiece Northwest team that could stay in front on him let alone impede his path to the rim. Hughes went for 20+ in a relatively easy victory. He's quick and strong for a 6-foot guard.
Ramar Smith, SG, The Family: Speedy Walker's bunch didn't exactly bring it against a team they should have throttled. Regardless, there was a stretch in the second half where Smith busted a pair of 3s and then crushed a one-handed follow dunk. He can pretty much get what he needs to on offense. He went for 24 points on 8-for-16 from the field.
Brian Carlwell, C, Ferrari: If you think we write about him a lot, well, you're right. Each time out he seems to get a little better. The guy does enough of everything without showing you the entire package. From blocking shots to throwing precise outlet passes, Carlwell has game. Then he goes and reverses one in from the blocks and you start thinking that he could make a little money at this game someday down the road.
MIKE CONLEY UPDATE
After a 31-point walloping of the New Hampshire Playerz, we had a chance to sit down with Mike Conley and pick his brain. "It's basically down to Wake Forest and Ohio State," Conley said. "Those are my two top schools." One thing that is becoming clear in his recruitment is the presence of Daequan Cook at Ohio State. "He's not a huge factor but he's pretty significant," Conley said. "Him committing there really opened my eyes."
North Carolina has talked Conley about a late May visit, but the Lawrence North star is unlikely to take another official visit after next weekend's trip to Columbus. "Coach Matta and Prosser have been with me since day one and I really feel comfortable around them." Conley said that both schools are "even right now" but our best guess is that the Buckeyes are surging.
Alex Legion, SG, Michigan Hurricanes: Another day at the office for one of the country's fastest rising soon-to-be-juniors. When it was all said and done and you added up the numbers, he punched the clock for a game-high 28 points. By the way, his running mate Darquavis Tucker wasn't bad either!
