Taylor Harrison Pulls Trigger

This wasn't all that much of a surprise. Hard-nosed San Clemente (Calif.) 6-9 junior big man Taylor Harrison ended his recruitment this weekend while on a visit.

It was somewhat of a foregone conclusion, but Taylor Harrison has made it official.

The San Clemente (Calif.) High 6-9, 235-pound junior power forward/center committed to California on a weekend visit.

``I've loved Cal since the seventh grade," Harrison said. "I pretty much knew I was going to go there, but I was just looking at some other schools who had offered and making sure it was the right decision. When I got there, I knew it was the right decision so I committed."

Harrison, a hard-nosed big man who plays hard and has been rapidly improving over the past year, had also received interest from UCLA and Stanford and recently fielded scholarship offers from Boston College and Texas.

``I was really comfortable with Cal," said Harrison, who averaged 16 points and 9.7 boards per game as a junior. "It would be really hard to pass up the scholarship."

``Cal was the right fit for me," Harrison added. "I really like the coaches and it's a great academic institution. It's also great for my personal career to play with the guys who are coming in and the guys who are going to be there. It's just a great opportunity and I'm hoping I can make an early contribution."

Harrison was contemplating taking official visits to BC and Stanford, but in the end, he didn't want to waste their time.

``When the coaches were coming to my school, we were honest and let them know I was about 80 percent sure I was going to Cal," Harrison said. "Then a week ago I decided to cancel some visits because I didn't want to waste their resources."
