Deon Thompson, 6-8 JR C Torrance (Calif.) High, is one of the top centers in the west for the class of 2006. After being overweight last summer, Thompson got in much better shape for his high school season and there was a dramatic improvement in his game. With a big frame, and excellent hands and feet, Thompson has a significant upside.

We spoke with Thompson last night and asked about the coaches that have been out to see him at his high school over the last several weeks.

"Oregon, Arizona State, Arizona, Pacific, Pepperdine, Loyola Marymount, USC and a few others," said Thompson.

When we asked him which program has been recruiting him the hardest to date, Thompson replied, "Probably Pepperdine. And Arizona State – their head coach came out to my school. But I'm really wide open right now – I don't have any real leaders."

Thompson said he uncertain about the issue of leaving the west.

"Me and my mom have been talking about it lately," said Thompson. "Some parts of me want to stay home and play in front of my mom, but other parts of me want to go away and see new places."

We asked Thompson if he has given any thought to the timing of his decision.

"I'll probably decide sometime around September," said Thompson.

Thompson told us he has a 2.5 GPA and he'll take the SAT this Saturday.
