2006 Focus: Decensae White

Decensae White is an intruiging junior wing from Northern California who is hearing from Pac-10, WCC and Big West programs...

Decensae White, 6-6 JR SG/SF Pacific (Calif.) Serra, was extremely impressive when we saw him in Las Vegas during the April evaluation period. He plays at the one on his club team, but we see him as a wing at the next level. His outside shot needs some work, but he plays with great energy, he has a good feel for the game and he's a solid defender and rebounder.

We spoke with White recently and he gave us a list of the schools that have been seriously recruiting him.

"St. Mary's, San Francisco, Loyola Marymount, UC Santa Barbara and Cal State Fullerton have all offered and I have interest in each of them," said White. "USC, ASU and Oregon have contacted my coach, but I haven't been in touch with them. Also, New Mexico came to see me at a workout."

We asked White if he has any feelings about staying close to home and he replied, "I'd like to play in the west, I'm interested in a lot of the programs in the west. But I'd go to the East if that was the best opportunity."

White is already pretty familiar with a couple of the local schools. "I play at St. Mary's and USF all the time," said White.

We asked him how he felt about playing early at a WCC or Big West program, versus the possibility of going to a high major program and possibly having to wait longer for playing time.

"I'd like to play right away if I can," said White. "But I'm hoping that I can get good enough to play early at the highest level."

White said he'd like to decide fairly early, but is willing to wait until the fall or later if he's not happy with his offers. He said he hopes to take some official visits towards the end of the summer.

When we asked if there are any schools he'll definitely visit, White replied, "St. Mary's is one that I'll definitely visit."

White told us he has a 2.7 GPA and has yet to take the SAT.
