Dudley Senior Needs A Grant
Eric Hicks is the marquee name at Dudley High School but Mike Hayes plays a pretty good supporting actor role. The 6-4 senior is averaging 13 points and 7 rebounds as a small forward.
"He's a solid player," Dudley coach David Price says. "He's a great kid, sound academically and has no attitude."
Right now, Hayes doesn't have a scholarship offer and the window of opportunity for schools to see him is closing. Dudley begins state playoff play on Thursday.
"I don't think he has any offers but I would have to check with him," Price said. "I am not sure if Charleston Southern or Duquesne have (offered) or not. As far as them saying he's got a scholarship, I don't know."
Hayes draws the tough assignments from his coach. "We always put him on the best offensive player. We played Hillside and put him on Bobby Perry. He held him to 7 points at our place. I just think that if he shoots the ball better he can play at any level. He has a good shot, but he just needs to keep working on it."
