The Wildcats head coach got a verbal commitment from Modesto Christian two-sport star Michael Porter, a 6-foot-3, 190-pound guard from the Class of 2006 who took visit last week along with his teammate, Adrian Oliver.
"I can't tell you how excited Michael is," his coach/ father, Gary Porter, told KentuckySportsReport.com. "He wanted to stay close to home and play locally, but what kid could say no to Kentucky? He is absolutely thrilled. He is living a dream right now."
"It happened so fast it made your head spin," added Porter. "But there was no use in sitting on it. His mind was made up. He knew what he wanted to do." Porter, a point guard, averaged 16.5 points last season while Oliver, a 6-foot-4 combo guard, put up 27 points per contest. Porter's other offer came from San Jose State while Oliver, who was also receiving interest from New Mexico and Arizona, is expected to take an official visit this weekend to Washington.
