2006 Focus: Landry Fields

Landry Fields is a relatively unknown shooting guard from Southern California. But schools in the Pac-10, WAC and Big West have him on their radar...

Landry Fields, 6-3 JR SG Los Alamitos (Calif.) High, hasn't received much exposure yet, but we think he's a very intriguing prospect.

An excellent shooter, Fields has the look of someone who isn't done growing yet. He's got very big hands, but isn't yet physically mature. Projecting his ultimate level, therefore, is somewhat difficult at this time. But you can see the potential for a very good player down the road.

We spoke with Russ May, Fields' coach at Los Alamitos, and asked him about the schools that have expressed interest.

"Stanford, Santa Clara, Boise State, Western Michigan and Long Beach State have all been calling," said May. "His recruitment is just starting to take off right now."

Fields is an excellent student and he'll take the SAT tomorrow.

"Assuming he does as well as I think he will, he should have a lot of options," said May.

Fields is very young for his class and will be 17 when he graduates.
