Jawan Carter Pulls Trigger

Jawan Carter made his decision on Monday and while it might surprise a lot of people, the Delaware native made his choice based on where he felt most comfortable.

First it was Darrin Govens. Then Derrick Rivera. Now Jawan Carter has become the latest '06 guard to commit to St. Joseph's.

Carter, a 5-foot-11, 175-pound rising senior point guard at Tatnall (Del.) High, committed to Phil Martelli and the Hawks on Monday.

``They've been loyal throughout the recruiting process," Carter said. "I have built a nice relationship with the coaches and I trust them. Also, I like the university - both athletically and academically."

Carter, who averaged 26.3 points this past season and suits up with the Playaz Basketball Club, also considered Villanova, Clemson, UConn and Wake Forest.

``When his body catches up to his brain, you're going to see one of the top point guards," Playaz coach Jimmy Salmon said.

As for the potential log-jam in the backcourt at St. Joe's, Carter views it differently.

``It's not about competing," Carter said. "We're all one family and it's about coming in together to get back to where the program is one of the best in the country. That's the only way you should look at it."
