FLORIDA - Our Delton Hayes checks in on what's happening in Florida with the playoffs.

STATE PLAYOFFS (Rounds 1 and 2)


Dr Phillips d Cypress Creek (97-76) Amare Stoudemire ended his prep career with 28pts, 10rbs, and 9 blks in the loss. Two-sport star Ryan Moore (UM) led the winners with 26pts, 7asst

Dillard d Flanagan (71-61) The 2-time defending state champs is turning it up in the playoffs. The Tobias brothers, Brandon (Arkansas) and Jimmy (2003) are leading the way for a 3rd straight large school title

Oviedo d Jacksonville Ed White (98-50) Mid-major wing recruit Shawn Whiterspoon is a force for the Lions. Parkland Douglas d Palm Beach Lakes (55-50) Miss St signee Steve Cowherd is looking to play in Florida's Final Four next week


Ft Walton Beach Choctawhatchee d Jacksonville Wolfson (62-59) WKU recruit Michael Doe missed a large part of the season but led his Indians on a huge upset of highly rated Wolfson and Will Holoman (Richmond).

Haines City d Pine Ridge (53-51) The undersized Hornets shot their way past the Deltona school that averaged 6'8" across the frontline. Rising soph Brandon Streeter scored 18pts with 4 3's. 6'8" PF Alonzo Herd had 13pts and 16rbs in his last HS game.


Tampa Plant d Lake Wales (79-53) Two-sport Mike Williams (USC) led Plant with 30pts in the win, Tyler Azzarelli had a 19pt, 7asst, 6rb game from the PG spot. BJ Leath scored 19 in his final HS game for LW; rising soph Derrick Simmons contributed 18

Kathleen d Tampa Jefferson (65-64) A standing-room only crowd that included coaches Billy Donovan and Steve Lappas witnessed this shootout between Kathleen's Rashad Anderson (UCONN) and Tampa's Terrance Kinsey (High major recruit) Kinsey won the battle with 25 pts, but Anderson (21pts) is another game closer to his second state championship Leesburg d Gainesville Eastside (76-59) Smooth PG Brandon Kelly led the winning Hornets with 24pts. Sharpshooter Corey Williams had 21pts in his final game for Eastside


Nease d Mt Dora (62-48) Chet Stachitas had 14pts, 7asst to lead Naese on its quest for a state championship. Small school PF recruit Dan Martin scored 24 for Mt Dora.

Santa Fe d Panama City Bay (76-68) James Shuler (Winthrop) 27pts, 12rbs to lead the Raiders. Eustis d St Augustine Menendez (63-59) 260lb mountain-man Wesley Green 20pts, 12rbs and shooting guard Jimmy Hudson 19pts with 4 three-pointers for Eustis.


Chipley d Fl High (86-73) Mid-major PG TJ McCullough continues to put up big time numbers with 28pts, 11rbs, and 10 asst. game Westminister Academy d Archbishop Carroll (89-64) Rising sophs Taurean Green (35pts) and shooter Jack Berry (18pts) led WA.

Hawthorne d Dixie County (71-53) Senior Devin Gordon (24 pts, 17rbs) and the state's #1 soph Cornelius Ingram (25 pts, 7rbs, 7asst) are on a mission to get to the small-town Hornets back to Lakeland and the Final Four. Rising soph PG Rashad Jackson had 10pts from long-range and 5stls.


Bronson d Faith Christian (49-46) PF Jordan Keeton led the upset with 17pts, 9rbs. Defensive specialist Jeremy Woodley held one of central Florida's best scorers Nathan Artt to 6pts in the career-ending loss. Artt who is being heavily targeted by Harvard, had over 2200 career points.

Bayshore Christian d All-Saints Academy (57-55) Ivy-league target Pop Lopez ended his HS career with 17pts in the loss for the Saints
