2006 Focus: Russell Westbrook

Russell Westbrook was 5-11 a year ago. He's now 6-2 and developing into a very intriguing prospect. Pac-10, Big 12, Mountain West and WCC programs have shown interest...

Russell Westbrook, 6-2 JR SG Lawndale (Calif.) Leuzinger, was a borderline prospect a year ago at 5-11. But a growth spurt in the last year has made a huge difference in his game and he's now an upper mid major prospect with a chance to go higher.

Westbrook has a good frame, with very long arms and size 15 feet. He has a young face and he might very well continue to grow. He's got a good shot to the stripe, a nice mid range game and solid feel for the game.

We spoke with Westbrook recently and asked him about the schools expressing interest in him.

"I've been hearing from Wyoming, Portland, Stanford, Texas Tech and Pepperdine," said Westbrook.

When questioned about what he is looking for in a school, Westbrook replied, "Academics, coaching, someplace that's a guard school and has a good big man to distribute the ball to."

Westbrook said location is not an issue.

"I don't really care about that. My Dad and I will go over everything after the summer and make a decision. It won't be anytime soon."

Westbrook told us he has a 3.8 GPA and he's waiting on his SAT results.
