2006 Focus: Eric Platt

Eric Platt, a 6-5 junior shooting guard, has an offer from a Mountain West program. But he says a WCC program currently tops his list...

Eric Platt, 6-5 JR SG Casper (Wyo.) Kelly Walsh, is a very good shooter with a solid feel for the game.

We spoke with Platt last night and asked him about the schools on his list.

"Gonzaga is probably the one I'm pretty serious about," said Platt. "Stanford has shown some interest. Wyoming, of course, and all the Mountain West schools."

Platt expressed an interest in leaving the area.

"If I could get out, that'd be good for me," said Platt. "Of course, it'll be different than being home but I'm ready to go, I think."

We asked him about the factors he'll consider when making his choice.

"As long as I get along with the coaches and the team, that's important," said Platt. "I'm sure the town and location -- the environment -- is something I'll look at."

Platt said Stanford has invited him to camp this summer and he plans on taking a trip to Gonzaga.

"I'm good friends with Adam Morrison, so I'm going up there to hang out with him."

We asked if he has a leader at this point and Platt replied, "Probably Gonzaga. I have a relationship with Adam and know their program. The coaches are great guys and great coaches."

Platt said he'd like to make his decision quickly. "The sooner the better," said Platt. "I'll take my visits after July and hopefully sign in November."

An excellent student, Platt told us he has a 3.7 GPA and is awaiting results from an ACT test he recently took.
