Marques Johnson Off Board

Marques Johnson was looking at a pair of ACC schools for a while, but in the end, he decided to take the playing time - and a chance to run the show - in the SEC.

Marques Johnson wanted to go somewhere he could get playing time and run the point. Tennessee was the perfect fit.

Johnson, a 6-4 1/2, 195-pound rising senior guard at Fort Wayne Snider (Ind.), committed to the Vols.

``What made Tennessee the choice is that they are looking at him as a point guard," Blessed IJN coach Eric Vaughn. "There is no Tennessee if he doesn't have a chance to start and play 25 minutes a game at the point."

Johnson averaged 22.3 points, 8 rebounds and 4.7 assists per game. ``Marques is versatile, has size and he has the ability to play multiple positions," Vaughn added. "He's got a great feel for the game."

``I think when it's all said and done, I think he's going to be the best point guard to come out of the class," he added. "He's got great work ethic and he's only going to get better."
