AAU Profile: Fox Valley Skillz

The Fox Valley Skillz AAU team might not be a program you've heard much about nationally, but this year they look to be an extremely big team with a marquee player. Brian Butch is poised to lead the way.

Fox Valley Skillz Profile

Fox Valley Skillz head coach Ritchie Davis appears to have a nice group of players in the program this season. They'll attend national events like the Spiece Run ‘n Slam, Bob Gibbons Tournament of Champions and the adidas Big Time.

Here's a look at their roster:

  • Mike Paynter, 6-6, 185, SF
  • Chris Kellett, 6-5, 175
  • TJ Paterick, 6-2, 175, PG
  • Tyrone Deacon, 6-2, 160
  • Dean Furton, 6-3, 175
  • Josh Schneider, 6-3, 180
  • Luke Homan, 6-3, 180, SG
  • Brian Butch, 7-0, 220, C
  • Steve Hoelzel, 6-9, 225, PF
  • Greg Stiemsma, 6-11, 210, C, 2004
  • Marshall Watry, 6-5, 190
  • Joe Thomas, 6-8, 235, PF
  • Kyle Clark, 6-4, SG, 2004

Butch, Hoelzel and Paterick are expected to attend the adidas ABCD Camp. Stiemsma, just a sophomore, will camp at Nike and Clark is likely to attend the Nike Jr. Camp.

From a national perspective, Butch is clearly the program's marquee member of the Class of 2003. Last week, he scored 40 points and grabbed 20 rebounds in a playoff win. Butch is hearing from Wisconsin, Marquette, Arizona, North Carolina, Kansas, Tennessee, Kentucky and Iowa. All of those schools have sent representatives up to watch him in action this year.

Davis says that Stiemsma, who attends Randolph (WI) High, is one of the most heavily recruited sophomores in Wisconsin. The coach says he already has been tendered offers to Wisconsin and Marquette. He'll also play in a few events with the Randolph Boys Club on the AAU circuit. "He's the Brian Butch of next year's (2004) class," Davis said.

The rest of the starters appear to be Paynter, Paterick, Homan and Hoelzel.

Paynter is an all-conference selection. Paterick, who attends Nease High in Florida, might be transferring into the state of Wisconsin. Utah is said to be recruiting him heavily.

Homan is the shooter. His father played for Marquette.

Hoelzel is a first-team all-conference player at Kaukana (WI) High. He has received several mid-major offers already, according to Davis.
