No. 42 Smith Picks Louisville

The Louisville Cardinals are getting rich off the Class of 2006 when it comes to backcourt players. On Thursday, Rick Pitino's charges landed their second Top 50 recruit in the form of Jerry Smith.

Edgar Sosa began Louisville's backcourt Class of 2006 and now Jerry Smith has added another gem to the Louisville haul. The 6-foot-3 shooting guard out of Wauwatosa (Wisc.) Wauwatosa East, committed to the Cardinals on Thursday. Smith is ranked No. 42 by

The lure of Rick Pitino and the aggressive style of play were enough for Smith to keep programs like Wake Forest and Wisconsin at bay.

"I like Pitino and Louisville a lot, every since I was growing up," Smith told Evan Daniels of "They weren't recruiting me as much, but when they came, they came hard."

Smith has been injured for most of the spring AAU season but he carries the reputation of a guy who can get things done at the offensive end. He's an excellent compliment to Sosa and Louisville's future backcourt is in good hands with this pair of Top 50 prospects.

"They just said that I have a good chance of playing a lot as a freshman," Smith explained. "They didn't guarantee anything. But they told me I could compete for minutes right away."
