SoCal Sleeper Landry Fields

Landry Fields isn't on any top 100 national lists, but we think he has a chance to develop into an outstanding player someday...

Landry Fields, 6-3 JR SG Los Alamitos (Calif.) High, looks so young that we thought he was a freshman when we saw him earlier this year. He's got a baby face, but long arms and very big hands. We don't like to project height, but we'll be surprised if he doesn't grow at least a little bit more.

Fields has a terrific stroke with a very quick release. He's improved his ability to put the ball on the floor and get his own shot. Right now, the only thing that limits him is a relative lack of strength. We think he'd be an ideal candidate for a redshirt year at the high major level.

We spoke with Fields this past weekend and asked him about the schools he's heard from.

"Boise State, Utah, Stanford, most of the Big West schools, Western Michigan and Virginia Tech," said Fields.

Fields talked about some of the issues he'll consider when choosing a school.

"The academics will be very important, along with the coaches and the players."

Fields said location won't be a factor in his decision.

"It won't matter," said Fields. "I'd kind of like to go away."

Fields hasn't taken any official visits yet and told us he would wait until after the summer to take his trips.

A very good student, Fields told us he has a 3.6 GPA and he's waiting on his SAT results. He said he's planning on signing in the fall.
