Carlwell Picks Big Ten Power

One of the biggest risers of the spring is now off the board. A newspaper report confirmed that Brian Carlwell is Big Ten bound.

According to the Chicago Sun Times, Brian Carlwell is off the board.'s No. 37 prospect in the Class of 2006, is headed to the Big Ten. Illinois has struck again in the Class of 2006, this time with a key in-state verbal commitment. According to a report out of the Sun Times in Chicago, Brian Carlwell will lace them up for the Illini in the fall of 2006.

"My visit last week was real good," Carlwell told the paper. "I felt comfortable with the coaching staff, and I just wanted to get this thing over with."

In committing to the Illini, he chose the squad over Florida State and Michigan State. He communicated to last month that Illinois was his leader at the time.

Carlwell attends Proviso East High, the same school which produced Dee Brown, currently a senior in Champaign.

The commitment is significant for Illinois on a number of fronts, but maybe most important of all is that Carlwell is a Chicago kid on the rise. This spring his stock soared after a strong performance at the Boo Williams Invitational.

A developing inside player, Carlwell has the ability to be a force in the college game. He's got finishing moves on the inside and has shown to be a defensive intimidator.

Carlwell is Illinois' second commitment from the Class of 2006. Earlier this spring they landed Top 100 forward Richard Semrau. and bring you action from Carlwell at the April Boo Williams Invitational!
