Aggies Land 2007 Guard

Texas A&M is rolling right along these days. Billy Gillispie's boys went into Oklahoma for their latest 2007 pledge.

Derrek Lewis, a 6-foot-4 combo guard out of Tulsa (Okla.) Cascia Hall, committed to Texas A&M Tuesday afternoon. Lewis is a member of the Class of 2007.

"My boy is really excited about the opportunity to go to Texas A&M and play for Coach G," Derrek Lewis, Sr., said.

Apparently the marriage between A&M and Lewis began with a visit to College Station for an Aggies camp last month.

"He had one of those days where he was shooting the ball really well," Lewis said. "The coaches, after camp was over, offered him a scholarship."

Lewis went back home, thought about the offer, mulled it over and pulled the trigger.

The father said his son became comfortable quickly with the Aggies. "He was at peace about the school. He said that he really wanted to play for Coach G."

Lewis' commitment begs the question: just who is this guy? Well, multiple sources confirmed that the Aggies are ahead of the curve here and Lewis is a player. He runs with an AAU team that is not on the national radar so his reputation is merely beginning.

"He's always been kind of underrated because we don't play for one of the nationally sponsored clubs. He was really flying under the radar."

Not anymore, he's headed to Texas A&M.
