Derrick Jasper Has Two Favorites

The 6-4 combo guard from sleepy Paso Robles (Calif.) High, Derrick Jasper, who has played well at the Adidas Camp, has received recruiting interest from across the country, and his two favorite schools are a continent away from each other...

Derrick Jasper, the 6-4 senior combo guard from Paso Robles (Calif.) High, the #97-ranked prospect in the 2007 class nationally, said he has two favorite schools – one on either coast.

"I like Connecticut and Washington," Jasper said. "Those two schools are my favorites right now."

Jasper, who has played very well at the Adidas Superstars Camp in Suwanee, Georgia, this week, said he likes those two schools because of their up-temp style. "That's the kind of style I want to play," he said. "Up-tempo, fast break. I'm also looking for a good coach. That's a priority for me."

He said that California, USC and Gonzaga round out his top five. "All of those schools have offered," Jasper said.

He'll start planning official visits as soon as the July evaluation period is over. "I'm sure I want to visit Washington and UConn, but after that I'm not sure. I'd like to get it done pretty quickly and make sure I can make a decision by my season," Jasper said.

Does he have a preference of coast, since he is from the west? "I really don't," he said. "I'll go where I have to go."

Most of his suitors are recruiting Jasper as a point guard. He said, "They are recruiting me as a one that can play the two."

He claims to have a 3.3 GPA, but didn't achieve a passing score on the SAT in his first attempt, and will re-take the test this fall.
