Antonio Pena Big East-Bound

Antonio Pena has spent this past season at St. Thomas More (Conn.) working on becoming more versatile. Mission accomplished. The former Lincoln (N.Y.) post player will take his revamped game to the Big East after another year under Jere Quinn.

Antonio Pena has always been known as the guy at Lincoln High (N.Y.) who was the beneficiary of many of Sebastian Telfair's flashy passes. Now Pena has stepped out of the shadow and has made a decision where he'll attend college.

According to sources close to the situation, the 6-7, 220-pound Pena, who spent last season at St. Thomas More (Conn.) under Jere Quinn, will announce he is committing to Villanova on Thursday.

Pena, who averaged about 21 points last season, also considered Florida, Cincinnati and Louisville.

Pena missed some time last season due to an injury, but when he did play, he silenced critics that questioned his work ethic. He also displayed a game that was much more than what he showcased at Lincoln when he was forced to play in the middle the majority of the time.

``When I was younger, I got labeled as lazy," Pena said. "I didn't have good work ethic and I don't want that."

``I felt that I showed people this past season that I can step out and play the three," he added. "I thought I could have still done better, but I was happy with my progress at St. Thomas More."

Pena will make the announcement at the Playaz Ball on Thursday while playing with the Juice All-Stars.
