Hess Headed To W&M

The Charlotte Royals performed extremely well at the Showtime Nationals, finishing second to EBO. Steven Hess, a 2006 big man, wasted little time in deciding on his college after the event.

Steven Hess told Scout.com during the Showtime Nationals that he was down to a pair of schools: Elon and William & Mary. Now, he's down to one.

On Sunday, Hess ended his recruitment and picked the CAA's Tribe.

"Me and my family, we narrowed it down to the top one or two," Hess said. "Then after the tournament we decided that we were going to go ahead and get this thing done. We decided on William & Mary based on academics and the basketball operation there."

Hess, a 6-foot-9 frontcourt player out of Gaston (N.C.) Gaston Day School, thinks there's plenty to accomplish at William & Mary.

"I think I'm pretty much going to be the base of trying to turn around the program," Hess said. "I'll be in the frontcourt and we've got a good recruiting class coming in. More is on the way and we want to win some championships."
