FLORIDA – Our man Delton Hayes gives us an update from the Sunshine State. It's complete with all the information of the state champs from the 2002 season.

State Champions


Semifinal: Ft Lauderdale Dillard 60, Coconut Creek 34; Orlando Boone 78, Miami High 66

CHAMPION: Dillard 52, Boone 48. MVP Joe McCray 19 points, 6 assists. Sweet-shooting wing Jimmy Tobias added 10 points.


Semifinal: Ft. Walton Beach Choctawhatchee 67, Palm Beach Dwyer 65; Haines City 72, Boca Ciega 63

CHAMPION: Haines City 80 Ft. Walton Beach Choctawhatchee 68. MVP Antonio Berry 15 points/5 assists. Rising soph Brandon Streeter knocked down 4 three-pointers. Michael Doe ended his career with 21 points, 15 rebounds and 9 blocks.


Semifinal: Belle Glades Central 62, Jacksonville Jackson 50; St. Pete Lakewood 59, Leesburg 45

CHAMPION: St. Pete Lakewood 59, Belle Glades Central 52. MVP Sam Tarver scored 35 in the loss. Smooth PG Kevin Dorsey led the winning Spartans with 23 points. Marcus Morrison scored 10 points with 9 rebounds.


Semifinal: St Augustine Nease 80, Wesley Chapel 53; Key West 92, Alachua Santa Fe 78

CHAMPION: St. Augustine Nease 75, Key West 59. MVP Chet Stachitas scored 33 points and had 15 rebounds.


Semifinal: Ft. Lauderdale Westminster 63, Port St. Joe 48; Florida Air 62, Hamilton County 48

CHAMPION: Ft. Lauderdale Westminster 70, Florida Air 59. MVP Nick Lamberti 27 points. Rising soph Taurean Green 20 points, 9 assists.


Semifinal: Miami Christian 75, Tallahassee FAMU 64; Bronson 64, Indian Rocks Christian 45

CHAMPION: Miami Christian 79, Bronson 49. MVP Carlos Rivera scored 22 pointsts, had 7 rebounds and 7 assists.
