Bobby Jones, 6-6 SR SF Long Beach (Calif.) Poly, is an intriguing wing player who is still hearing from a number of high major schools. Figuring out which schools are serious at this point is somewhat difficult. Jones is a terrific defensive player with developing offensive skills and it's conceivable that a high-major school would go on him.
Jones told us recently that Oregon, Kansas, Boston College, UMass, Vanderbilt and Cal Poly Pomona have all called in the last month or so. Pepperdine, which had been in the picture most of the year, has dropped out after filling their scholarships for next season.
Jones has yet to trip to any of the schools on his list, but plans to set up some trips at the end of his season (Poly is still competing in the CIF state playoffs).
When we asked if he had any leaders, Jones said, "No, they're all about even."
Jones has a set of criteria that he's looking for in a school. "I want a place with a good academics," Jones said. "I'd also like a coach who will commit to being there for at least three years. And a chance to play early would also be important."
Location will not be an issue in his decision, Jones said. "I don't care about staying close to home -- I'm willing to go anywhere."
Jones told us that he has passed the SAT and he's fully qualified.
