Davis, Martin Remain On The Board

Chris Chaney has a few unsigned players down at Laurinburg. Most notably, swingman Cortez Davis and guard Tristan Martin.

Davis Closing In On Score

Chris Chaney had himself quite an assembly of talent this year. Now, he's trying to make sure those players have homes for next season.

Last June, small forward Cortez Davis (brother of former Delaware guard Keith Davis) committed to Maryland. Done deal, right? Not so fast. At the Nike Camp, Davis reneged on his commitment to the Terps and then the information came out that his academics needed boosting.

Well, as of mid-March, they still need boosting. However, Chaney says that Davis is only about 20 points shy of the SAT.

Apparently, Miami-FL, Florida State and Auburn are in the mix. Leonard Hamilton down at Florida State (man, it's hard resisting the urge to write ‘Leonard Hamilton of Miami') is probably going to want to try and bring in the best available player and Davis qualifies in that category.

Tristan Martin, a guard from Canada, is the other Nike Camper looking for a college. Chaney says he has some offers but he's looking to go higher. Niagara and Jacksonville State want him right now. "A couple of schools who are getting new head coaches and those coaches say that they will want him," Chaney said. Martin is qualified.
