2003 Spotlight: Ryan Pettinella

McQuad Jesuit's core group of players will return next season very hungry. They lost the state title last weekend. One of the key players is power forward Ryan Pettinella, an emerging prospect.

Pettinella's Recruitment Should Pick Up Steam

Ryan Pettinella is a 6-8 junior power forward at Rochester (NY) McQuad Jesuit. He averaged 16 points and 8.5 rebounds this past season. He was named to the All-Greater Rochester team and was all-tournament at the state championship.

Back in February, at the Prime Time Shootout, Pettinella proved to be a fine post scorer who uses both hands and battles in the paint.

Numerous Ivy League programs are on him. William & Mary, Northwestern, Holy Cross and most of the schools in his area are recruiting him. Colgate and Rhode Island are on him hard too.

"He started for us last year as a sophomore but he made a huge jump in terms of his play this year," coach Joe Marchese said. "He's so good at catching on the run in our fastbreak. This kid catches the ball on the fly and finishes as well as any we've had.

"He started to hit face-up jumpers and has gotten so much stronger. His body has started to develop. I think, in college, he's going to be a 6-8, 235 pound kid and a force in college at the power forward spot."

Pettinella will attend the Nike Camp and play with the Mickey Walker All-Stars.
