2007 Focus: Darnell Gant

Darnell Gant, 6-8 JR PF Los Angeles (Calif.) Crenshaw, has gone from being a complete unknown to a national level prospect in the last couple months. The long, athletic forward has a terrific frame and the quickness to potentially play on the wing someday. He's basically a face-up four man at this point – very good shot to three-point range – but he's willing to play inside and he's a good rebounder.

While Gant's recruitment is still in the early stages, there are some top programs that have already started to show interest. We asked Gant about the schools he's heard from lately.

"Arizona, UCLA, Washington, Portland and USC are the main ones right now," said Gant.

When questioned about the factors he'll consider when making his choice, Gant replied, "Academics will be first. I'll also look at the program – if they have a chance to win and go to the Final Four. That's important. I'd also like to play someplace with a fast tempo."

We asked Gant if location will be an issue.

"I'd kind of like to go east, but I'll more than likely stay here in the west," said Gant.

Gant said two ACC programs were his favorites when he was growing up. "I liked North Carolina and Duke."

Gant doesn't anticipate making an early decision. "I'll let everything play out – I don't want to rush it."

Gant lives with his aunt and grandmother, and he said they'll play a major role in his decision.

"They'll help me decide – they help me with most of the main decisions in my life."
