Not only has he improved his stock with recruiting analysts, but with college coaches.
Among high majors, he's been hearing from Arizona State (which has offered him a scholarship), but now Wake Forest, Gonzaga, Connecticut, and Kentucky have contacted him. "Oh, and UCLA, too. They've been coming to my games this week," Thompson said.
When asked if he had a favorite, Thompson said, "Well, Arizona State has offered me."
If other schools offered, would it change his perspective? "If UCLA offered, they could be my favorite, even though I really like ASU since they've been recruiting me the longest and the hardest. But with UCLA, it's so close to home, and my mom would really like me to stay close to home. UCLA is just a great fit."
With such a strong preference to stay close to home, Thompson said he could still leave the area if it was the best situation for him. "If I went away to school, I think my mom would understand, if she knew it was what was best for me," he said.
Thompson said he'd like to start taking official visits as soon as he can. "I know I'd like to visit Gonzaga, and ASU most likely. I'd like to take all five before I make a decision."
Is there a way, if any school offered, he could not take all of his trips and commit quickly? "I don't know. I don't think so. If UCLA offered, it'd be big, but I don't think I'd commit quickly," Thompson said.
An issue could be Thompson's academics. But he said, "I finished up strong in my second semester last year, and now I have a 2.8 GPA. I took the SAT and didn't pass, but now I'm taking an SAT study course, so I think I'll be okay."
