Mountaineers Close To Commitment

LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. – Cam Thoroughman could be on the verge of making a college decision. With an unofficial visit in the works for this coming week, see which Big East school is in prime position.

Cam Thoroughman has offers from George Mason, Marshall and UNC-Wilmington. In all likelihood he's going to pass on the MAC and CAA in favor of the Big East.

The West Virginia Mountaineers have offered the 6-foot-6 wing out of Portsmouth (Ohio) Clay High School and, if all goes well this week, will receive a verbal commitment from him soon.

"I'll probably end up there," Thoroughman said at the AAU Nationals. "[Coach Beilein] told me [before the Hoosier Shootout] that he was interested and liked the way I play."

Thoroughman's offer came after the Hoosier Shootout and the entire process is likely to end this coming week when he visits Morgantown unofficially. "My parents want me to take a look at the place," Thoroughman said. Tentatively the visit is set for Thursday of next week.

Thoroughman's stroke has been coming along and he's got a big body for a wing. He had 5 points and 8 rebounds in the Royals last second win of the Rising Stars Friday night.

"I play on a Division Four team in high school," Thoroughman said. "I do pretty much a little bit of everything."

From the sounds of it, he'll be doing that at West Virginia in the fall of 2006 if all goes well on his unofficial visit.
