Known for his scoring ability, Smith has been a commodity on the circuit since his freshman season. His scoring exploits both in high school and with the Detroit-based traveling team The Family, have become well known.
UConn, as it typically does during the month of July, dispatched head coach Jim Calhoun to the gyms he played in and moved swiftly. The Huskies, owners of a plethora of scholarships in the 2006 class, earmarked Smith early as a priority recruit and pursued him with that sort of intensity.
UConn's other primary wing target is thought to be Jerome Dyson of Proctor Academy. The Huskies remain involved with a variety of talented players across the country, including Seattle's Spencer Hawes and a host of other top notch targets. Just this week, highly-regarded center Deon Thompson and big man Alex Stepheson mentioned that they would like to officially visit Storrs.
