Lea's Big Season Pays Dividends

At the end of last summer, most scouts and coaches in the west viewed Marvin Lea as a possible low-major player. But a great senior year, and newfound ability to play the point, has Lea receiving interest from several mid-major schools....

Marvin Lea, 6-2 SG/PG Riverside (Calif.) ML King, has long been an athletic slasher with the ability to create opportunities for himself. But this season saw Lea spending time at point guard and he flourished in the role. As a result, Lea's stock has gone up and he's now being recruited by a number of schools in the west.

We spoke with Lea the other day and he told us his four leaders at this point are New Mexico St., Pepperdine, USF and St. Mary's. Lea made it clear, however, that he's open to hearing from other schools as well.

Lea's current plan is to visit New Mexico St. on April 5th and USF on April 12th. He said he hopes to set up trips with Pepperdine and St. Mary's soon.

"I want to see all four schools, hopefully by the end of April, and then make a decision," Lea said.

Lea told us that he's fully qualified, with a 3.0 GPA and a 920 score on the SAT.
